ancestor: Laura Georgina Courtenay

comments: I have reason to believe that my grandmother may have been a child of Laura Courtenay. Her name was Elsie Workman. She was born to a Laura Workman in Hitchin in 1898. I have noted from the 1901 census that Laura Georgina Workman then lived in Stevenage with Winifred. As my grandmother was abandoned as a baby, I am having difficulty in confirming if this was indeed her mother.

On my grandmother's birth certificate is written that her mother is Laura Workman, formally Collins - do you know if she had any dealings with anyone named Collins?

Do you also know anywhere on line that I may see a picture of Laura?

Thanking you in Advance,

Polly Cook

Margaret Kilty nee Courtney (Ireland circa 1770)

Submitted on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 15:29:12
fname: Linda
lname: Kiltie Stewart
country: Scotland

ancestor: Margaret Courtney

comments: I have the death certificate for my great-g-g-g grandfather Barnard Kilty, date of death 1855 Wigtownshire Scotland. His parents names on this certificate are, Father: Bryon Kilty Mother: Margaret Kilty nee Courtney. Place of birth for Barnard Ireland, unfortunately no county. Barnard would have been born around 1769, as the first marriage for this son of Bryon and Margaret is 1802 in Scotland.

I'm guessing they left Ireland after 1770, but as yet no proof of this as I am still searching for the rest of their children via A long shot I know, but if there is any proof that a Margaret Courtney married a Kilty/Kelty/ (various spellings for this name) please get in touch, this would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Linda K Stewart

cannot find any info on the family between 1592 and 1713(may not be accurate) when John Courtney was born (Ilfracombe Devon England)

It is possible that John Courtney's(1713) father was called Nicholas Courtney and married to Catherine Knight.

Does anybody know anything about this family line?

comments: I have traced my Courtney Family Tree back to my third great grandfather John Courtney and his marriage to Margaret Dickson in 1797 at St Anne Soho, London. I believe some of his siblings may have gone to America. Also from an old family letter the surname may have been Courtenay. As there are many John Courtneys on Family Search I am unable to find his parents.I should be grateful for any links to John Courtney who was probably born between 1760 and 1777.

comments: Hello::

Looking for any information on a Lily Courtney b. approx. 1870 timeframe somewhere in UK. She was married to a George Alex Stewart and had two sons, born in Darjeeling, India. George Eric St. Lucien Courtney Stewart was my grandfather, b. 6/6/1886. He had one sibling, named Keith who was KOA in WW1. I believe Lily's father may have been a surgeon named Charles Frederick Courtney. Any feedback or leads, however remote are deeply appreciated.

comments: Hello
I am on the usual quest of tracing ancestors and although I seem to have several branches of the Courtenay family as my ancestors, I am currently interested in Elizabeth Courtenay ( I think born at Powderham in 1487 and died in Plympton St Mary) Elizabeths father was Philip Courtenay (born at Powderham in 1432). Elizabeth married Sir William Strode of Newnham Park Plypton. My question is about the property Elizabeth brought into the Strode family which I understand was an estate called "Lough Torr" which I think was knocked down and had Newnham Park built in it's place. any information regarding Elizabeth or her father Philip will be gratefully recieved.

To put things in Context I am a direct male descendant of the first Earl of Cork Richard Boyle and Richards 6th son Viscount Francis Boyle. Francis Boyle's son Hon richard Boyle married Elizabeth Ponsonby; Elizabeths Grandmother was Anne Strode the daugther of Sir William Strode and Elizabeth Courtenay.

Kind regards
