Lewis Courtney, born 1793 in VA, emigrated to Winchester, Clark Co., KY at a young age. (I suspect Lewis is related to Thomas Courtney of K&Q Co. VA, but haven't substantiated it). Lewis's son Caswell was born 1812 in Clark Co., KY. They emigrated to Howard Co., MO around 1825. Caswell eventually established himself in Keytesville, Chariton Co., MO, while Lewis moved on to Pettis Co., MO. Caswell had a son Commodore, of Keytesville MO. Commodore had a son Walter, of Lincoln, Benton Co., MO, who had a son Lynn of Kansas City, MO.

comments= Looking for living relatives of Captain (USAF) Terence Francis Courtney, born 15 Aug 1946.

Killed in Binh Long Province, South Vietnam on 2 May 1972. He received the Air Force Cross (2nd only to the Medal of Honor). Terry was single and the only son of a widowed mother. His home of record was Skokie, IL.

Terry and I went to Flight School together at Webb AFB, TX in 1969. He would have entered the Air Force around 1968. I would like to contact a living relative so that I can tell them of the extraordinary character and valor of Terry.

From what I see, she cannot possibly be the daughter of Hugh & Maud.

Her "brothers" were born in 1417 & 1427 so one would presume that should be born between those years...

comments= I have information that my Great-great grandfather's mother was a Courtney born in Boston, Mass while it was still a colony of England. I believe that her brother, Thomas Courtney, Jr. lived sometime in the 1700 in Edinburgh, Scotland, although I believe that Francis Hamilton Wemyss may have married her in London. I have no name for her.

My information comes from a book written by her son, Francis Wemyss who brought the first group of English actors to the U.S. in 1832. Can anyone help me find his mother and her family?

My Mother's name was Myrtle Courtenay and she was brought up in Danube St in Belfast. Henry Courtenay has since died but his wife Ivy lives with her daughter in Hawaii. comments= My family was able to trace our family line back to Jean Courtenay who apparently came to America from France. Unfortunately, we do not know what part of France he was from or who his parents were.

Jean Courtenay's wife was Marie Turin (1812-1884), and his children were: Urinte Courtenay, Cloiselle Isodore Courtenay, John Talmage Courtenay, Azoline Courtenay, Joshlin John Courtenay (my great grandfather), and Zoe Courtenay.

I'd appreciate any help you could provide in finding Jean Courtenay's parents, and/or where he was from.

comments= I am the Historian of the Anglican Chaplaincy of Basel, Switzerland. Rev Richard Hudson Courtenay was Chaplain here from 1928 to 1945. He died in Les Planches, Montreux, Switzerland, on July 19 1945. We know that he was born 1869, and in 1900 to 1923 was Chaplain of the St John's Anglican Church, Rangoon, Burma.

We know that he was married to a lady of maiden name Riley, but find no reference to her until the probate document of the Basel Switzerland city administration, which shows here as a next of kin in London in 1945. We have no further details since all church archives are lost or destroyed.

We would like to know who he was, where he was born, family circumstances, and any descendants. We wish to record him properly and with honour, as he served here for 17 years and was virtually forgotten.

comments= William Courtenay had 13 daughters, 1 of whom was said to have married a captain Sullivan of the British Army. Not many Sullivans did well in the British Military. None made colonel in 1700s and the only captain located is Daniel O'Sullivan Esq., Cametringane, of the Berehaven Loyal Infantry. The marriages of the 13 daughters are all accounted for except for Eleanor and Amelia, and Amelia is probably too young.
