Sir William Courtenay, 8th Earl of Devon, 1762-1785

ancestor=Sir William Courtenay, 8th Earl of Devon, 1762-1785
comments=Sir William Courtanay, 8th Earl of Devon, had 13 daughters, most of whose marriage history is known. My great grandparents and their descendants claimed that my great great grandfather, Dennis Sullivan (b. 1785, d. 1858) was the result of a liason between a Captain Sullivan serving in the British Army, and one of the daughters. Eleanor was b. 1772, but died young in 1789, unmarried. Elizabeth (1765-1815) married Lord Somerset and was said to have had words with her father around the time of her wedding before he was sent to South Africa as governor of the Cape Colony in 1808. Anything relevant?

  1. Hi there Courteney researcher,

I think it is it possible that a 15 year old gave birth,
if she were free to meet men at court unchaperoned.
If you do a DNA test maybe you can match it up to
this family, that is if your last name is Courtenay,
if it is not Courtenay no point.

You may review these dates and names below if you don't have them, they are a bit different from yours These people are also my indirect family from Plantagenet times, which I guess would account for most of the population on earth.
William 8th Earl being 10c x 10r. though I think it could be closer if I link them to my Howards and Manners ancestors.

    yours,
    David
