comments: I'm looking for Alicia Courtnay. She was from Ireland, married Hutton Rowe Spencer and came to Steubenville, Ohio between 1801 and 1805. Her father's name was Joseph Courtnay. Thanks, Verma

  1. Hi Verma.Alicia was the sister of my antecedent Thomas Courtenay. He married Sarah Lefroy (sister of Thomas Langlois Lefroy-linked romantically to Jane Austen
(see the movie "Becoming Jane). I recently got a copy of Joseph`s Will (1805).He died 1809. Alicia was married by then and had received her inheritance. Some of the other sibblings received 1000 pounds each, including 140pound 10 shillings from their grand father. Joseph gave her a further 5 shillings.
The sibblings were Thomas, Jane (married Andrew Newton), Ally, Joseph, Mary Ann, Archibald, William and James. Joseph was a wealthy Draper, with land in Londonerry, Mount Hamilton in Antrim, Portglenone Antrim and Grange Antrim. Joseph requested to be buried with his wife at Templemoil (Templemoyle). I can n`t find anything on line re this.
I have a gap behind this until Joseph`s great grandfather. He came to Ireland with and married the daughter of Col. Peter Bass
