[1st name on Newry Courtenay stone] Edward COURTENAY was born on 15 Oct 1741. Died in 1787 [or 1796]. See (p. 100) Crossle. Marriage notice in the Belfast Newsletter of 26 April, 1765: "Tuesday last (23rd) Edward Courtenay of Newry, Esq., was married to Miss Jane Carlile of same place, a young lady of great merit, and a handsome fortune." Miss Carlile was the third daughter of David Carlile of Newry, by Jane Medill his wife. Note: This Edward is listed as having died in 1796 at age 40 in the St. Patrick's cemetery records, a copy of which was received by St. John Courtenay III in May 1994 [1796 is shown on the Courtenay gravestone in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Newry]. This date conflicts with Crossle's death date of 1787. Edward’s wife Jane is listed in the St. Patrick's cemetery records as having died in 1828 at age 78 and is explicitly denoted as "widow of Edwd". This Edward COURTENAY was the great-grandfather of William Ashmead Courtenay, mayor of Charleston, SC.

William Courtenay “Bill” Davidson died Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2013,
at Greenfield Senior Living of Oak Ridge, where he had resided for a
short time.
The son of Mary Ann and the late Jackson B. Davidson, Bill was born in
Oak Ridge in 1954 and attended Cedar Hill Elementary, Jefferson Junior
High, and Oak Ridge High School, from which he graduated in 1972. He
was active in Scouts and received the Order of the Arrow. He attended
Eckerd College in Tampa, Fla., and later graduated from the University of
Tennessee with honors and a major in French.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister Anne Courtenay
Davidson; also six uncles, Nathaniel (and his wife Mary), Robert,
William, Hugh (and his wife Loretta), and Lee Davidson and William H.
Courtenay.
William Courtenay “Bill” Davidson
Survivors include Bill’s mother; his sister Adele S. Davidson of Gambier, Ohio; his uncle, Thomas A. Courtenay of Shelby County, Ky.; and three cousins with their families: Anne S. Davidson, Julie and Glenn McCaffrey, and Diane Cook and the late R. Fred Cook Jr. Bill lived most of his life in East Tennessee, but also spent time in Washington state and had good friends in the Northwest. In his earlier years, he enjoyed traveling and worked in Scotland and Crete;
his time working in a restaurant resort in Ullapool, Scotland, was one of his favorite experiences. He worked in landscaping, restaurant work, and (briefly) broadcasting.
In recent years, he attended First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge and faithfully helped out with washing the dishes at the church’s Wednesday night suppers. He also participated in the church’s guitar group and donated his piano to the church. He loved music, art, and poetry, and devoted much of
his time to painting. He was an avid reader of The New Yorker—Alice Munro was a favorite author—and Poetry Magazine. He enjoyed reading his French Bible and listening to French stations on shortwave radio, gardening, camping, and barbecuing; he looked after his mother and enjoyed raking the fall leaves in her yard. He practiced yoga with a local group. He was a member of the local chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
Loving and giving in death as well as in life, Bill donated his brain to the McLean Hospital Brain Bank in Cambridge, Mass., for research into causes of schizophrenia and other brain diseases.
Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. following burial in Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church after the service.

Good Morning,
I am working with a Dr Jason Courtenay to try and establish his
ancestral Courtenay family. As far as we know he is descended from John
Courtenay baptised in Berrynarbor the son of Richard Courtenay on 2 may
1692.
However we cannot find a marriage or baptism for Richard although we
believe he was buried in Berrynarbor in 1737. I wonder if you can help
to establish where he married and was baptised?

grandfather, John Upton and Sir William Courtenay, (1st Baron

leased approximately 10% of the Courtenay land holdings in S. Ireland
in 1694. The lease was a portion of the 12,000 acres granted to Sir
William's ancestors by Queen Elizabeth I.
I
have been told that your archives show no information for, "Ulster
Plantation Records" Well, the land lease deal between John and William
was no "plantation". Certainly your archives should have the personal
records and holdings of Sir William. For such a large land deal and an
equal one of similar size with Col. Thomas Holmes, older brother of Sir
Robert Holmes, there must have been letters between John Upton and
William Courtenay or Upton, Courtenay and Holmes.
Is there no way you can search for the records or letters of Baron William Courtenay?
I'm

rent records for Sir William???

James Courtney (B 1640)
Although the DNA tests
show ancestry back to James Courtney (B 1640) I have been unable to tie
Andrew (B1819 in Rockbridge VA) to any of the known Courtneys decended
from James. The Fielding that I have Census info on was born in 1761
but can not find any offspring or sibling info. Any help would be
appreciated.
