Obituary for Mrs. Elizabeth "Libby" Courtenay Hamilton

Elizabeth ‘Libby” Courtenay Hamilton, 88, of Gulfport died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Oxford. She was born in Richland County, SC and was a long time resident of Gulfport. She was active for over 50 years at St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church, the Garden Club and Medical Wives Auxiliary.

Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward C. Hamilton; a daughter, Jane Craig Hamilton; son, Edward Courtenay Hamilton; her parents, St. John Courtenay and Margaret Hayne Beattie Courtenay; her husband’s parents, Morris and Jennie Lee Hamilton; a sister, Julia Francis Courtenay Campbell.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hayne Hamilton and her husband, Danny R. Story; a son, Morris Robeson Hamilton, MD and his wife, Margie Crowder Hamilton;

A sister, Margaret Courtenay Jenkins;

a brother, St. John Courtenay;

six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Edward Mesick and his wife, Alissa Varrati and their daughter, Estelle Carter Mesarrati, Jennifer C. Dixon and her son, Jonas Author Dixon, Hattie E. Schmidlkofer, her husband, Jeremy and their daughters, JJ Marilee Hayne and Karma Martina Hattie, Francis Connor and her husband Major Liam Connor and their son, Gavin McGregor Connor, Morris R. Hamilton, his wife, Kim and their son, Theodore Robeson , Fredrick Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service is Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi.
