I'm trying to find out the Courtenay connection to my mother's family.
My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Alexander Courtenay who married Thomas Hunter at Kilrea
First Presbyterian Church on the 12 February 1838. According to the
church records Elizabeth was the daughter of Sarah Church and William(?)
Courtenay possibly of Templemore. She is recorded in the Church register as being a member of the Church of England.
She had 2 brothers Thomas (born about 1810) and John.
Thomas was a doctor at Galgorm, Co Antrim having graduated from Glasgow University in the 1840s.
Thomas died in 19th November 1893. Elizabeth died 17th February 1894, aged 80. John survived both siblings.
Elizabeth's son John Chaine Hunter was my great grandfather.
Having never heard the Courtenay name in connection
with the Hunter family it would be interesting to find out where this
branch of the family came from.
