I have info that my 9th Great Grandfather was John James Courtenay born abt. 1608 in Powderham Castle. It shows that at some point he came to Virginia, USA. What I would like to know is if he was, in fact, born there and if so, I would like to follow the line as far back as possible. In addition, any info on why he may have come to America would be appreciated.
